- The first burn of your candle is the most important. To prolong the life of your candle and to get the best results, set aside enough time so that your candle can remain lit continuously until a melt pool has formed all the way across the surface. This can take as long as 3 to 4 hours depending on the conditions in the room and the size of the candle. This sets the memory ring of the wax and prevents tunnelling.
- Between burning sessions, trim the wick, remove any excess soot from the top of the wick and any debris from the top of the candle.
TIPS FOR WOODEN WICK CANDLES
- It takes a little more patience to light a candle with a wooden wick than a standard candle. We recommend using an extra long match or a gas candle lighter. The flame from the match needs to make direct contact with the wooden wick until it has ignited all the way across, many people find this easier by tilting the candle on an angle or turning the candle upside down, so the wooden wick is brought down into the flame to improve contact. Once lit, carefully turn the candle the right way up.
- Wooden wicks also need to be trimmed, the best length for a wooden wick is approx 5mm. Remove any charred debris between burns or before relighting.
